Tri-Lakes enter Google's high-speed contest

(04/05/10) Sen. Charles Schumer will be in Canadaigua this afternoon to talk up Ontario County's entry in Google's "Fiber for Communities" competition -- a high-speed Internet system to link schools, medical facilities and businesses.

Vermont is pinning its Google hopes on a short video produced by a student at Champlain College. Nick Stefani says he drew on his skateboarder sensibilities to make the video, which shows the 21 year-old running through Vermont scenes trailing an orange extension cord. It ends with Vermont Gov. Jim Douglass telling Stefani not to run in the statehouse.

Those are just two of thousands of entries, including one from the Tri-Lakes of the Adirondacks. Martha Foley has more.
