Elizabethtown, NY, May 04, 2010 — Officials in Essex County are concerned with next year's budget projections. Some numbers show a potential 30 percent increase to the tax levy. In an effort to offset potential property tax increase, supervisors are moving forward with a plan to increase the sales tax. Yesterday, supervisors voted 14 to 3 to petition state lawmakers to grant the county with authority to increase the sales tax from 7.75 percent to 8 percent even. Chris Morris has more.
