Survey finds support for wind farms
Nearly 70 percent of those polled supported putting wind
turbines in Lake Ontario.
The remaining 30 percent split about evenly between people who were against the
idea and people who were undecided.
The New York Power Authority is currently considering bids from developers to
build one or more wind farms in the waters of Lake Ontario and-or Lake Erie.
The proposal has drawn intense criticism from many lakefront communities.
Earlier this week, the town board of Irondequoit became the third in Monroe
County to vote against the Power Authority’s plans - whatever they might be.
Three counties on Lake Ontario and one on Lake Erie have also passed similar
resolutions.
The public opinion poll was conducted earlier this month and was commissioned
by several Rochester area-media organizations - including Innovation Trail
partner W-X-X-I.
