Authorities are tracking down a handful of leads as the search continues for a missing Saranac Lake man. Gary Sklaryk hasn't been seen or heard from since early Sunday morning.

Sklaryk is six feet tall and weighs 120 pounds. He has brown eyes, brown hair, a beard and mustache, and was last seen wearing a blue and gray plaid hooded sweatshirt, gray corduroy pants and black slippers

Anyone with information about Sklaryk's whereabouts is asked to contact the Saranac Lake Police Department at 518-891-4422.

As Chris Knight reports, police don't have much to go on, despite an appeal to the public for help.

Village of Saranac Lake Police Chief Bruce Nason said police and state forest rangers expanded the search for Gary Sklaryk on Wednesday, "We've started an actual ground search from his last known location, and have expanded outward checking any and all abandoned buildings, the wooded area close by, any phone calls with leads that might indicate someone may have seeen someone who fits the description, we follow up on that."

A state police helicopter was also brought in to check areas along the Saranac River.

Despite those efforts, Nason said Sklaryk’s whereabouts remain unknown.

The 55 year-old was last seen at 4:30 a.m. Sunday walking down the street not far from the home he shared with his father.

Police described him as a solitary man who kept to himself. He also has an undisclosed health condition that police say may require medical attention.

Nason said Sklaryk didn't have access to a vehicle, didn't have a cell phone and didn't leave any indication of where he may have gone.

Police have received a half-dozen calls from people who think they've seen Sklaryk, including a report from White River Junction, Vermont, where a local resident reported seeing a person matching Sklaryk's description at a church.

Nason said police are following up on that and other leads as the search continues.
