Saranac Lake bridge still closed

The Associated Press reported this weekend that the Hudson River rose to a record height in the village of Schuylerville, seven feet above flood stage. High water postponed the scheduled opening of parts of the state canal system and forced road closures from the Southern Tier to the North Country. According to The Times Union, of Albany, several homes in Moreau had to be evacuated.

And the Watertown Daily Times reported that farmers in some Lewis County towns had to evacuate livestock because of flooding.

Saranac Lake battled much of last week against high waters flowing through out of the Saranac chain of lakes through the village. Businesses and homes were flooded, and this morning, officials were still monitoring a key downtown bridge. Martha Foley has more.
