Heard Up North: Yoga in the park

With so much on our minds these days, some people forget to take time and just breathe. To re-teach people how to breathe, stretch and find inner peace, the Yoga Loft's Sarah Scafidi McGuire started Yoga in the Park in the summer of 2007.

She still still runs the free program on the Canton Village Green every Friday at 11 a.m. during the Canton Farmers Market.

Steve Knight borrowed her yoga mat for today's Heard Up North.

"I thought it would be fun for people to enjoy yoga outside in the summertime," McGuire said. "I think the goal of yoga is to just gain an understanding of yourself and so then you can move through the world with a greater self-awareness.

"Throughout our busy lives we just move from one thing to another. What a yoga practice does is just gives you that time to not think about what you are planning for dinner or what’s next, what’s on your to-do list, but really what’s going on inside."
