The idea of legalized casino gambling is controversial— some say it will do damage to families and communities.

Others argue it will create jobs—One group has proposed a casino in Alexandria Bay, in the Thousand Islands region, they say could create up to 1000 jobs.

Casino gambling is currently permitted only on Native reservations—and its legalization outside reservations would have a huge economic impact on those groups.

The poll went up Monday. Ritchie says she’s already had a few responses, mostly positive:

I think because St. Lawrence County and Oswego county, two counties in my district, are on the top of the unemployment list whenever it comes out, people are very concerned about jobs and this potentially has the ability to create a number of jobs.

Ritchie says she’ll report the results of the poll in a week or two.
