Andrew Loconto is a meteorologist with the weather service—he says we can expect another day of snow, sleet and ice—followed by some really cold temperatures:

We’re looking at lows in the single digits across much of Northern New York, and then for Saturday night looking at some of the coldest air of the season, lows in the teens below zero.

Loconto says the most reports of icing have been in the St. Lawrence Valley—with as much as 3/8ths of an inch of ice reported in Ogdensburg. He says it’s actually happening here, because of something known as a temperature inversion.

Temps at the ground have been high 20s to lower 30s. but there’s a layer of warmer air around 5000 feet, creating the freezing rain and sleet and icing that’s happened throughout much of the St. Lawrence Valley.

Loconto says people should be especially careful on the roads and around trees and power lines that may be gathering ice.
