Former Cape Vincent town clerk sentenced in fraud case
Cape Vincent, NY, Jan 20, 2012 — A judge has sentenced former Cape Vincent Town Clerk Jeri Mason to five years probation. Mason pled guilty last October, to Defrauding the Government (a class E felony) and Official Misconduct. She's said to have stolen nearly $30,000 from the town.
Mason had been out of jail on probation, contingent upon her paying back the full amount of that theft. She’s paid the town of Cape Vincent $29,872.
From April 2009 to September 2010, Mason engaged in a fraudulent scheme that involved falsely representing the amount of revenue the Town was collecting.
