Trudeau Institute researcher lands $3 million grant
Saranac Lake, NY, Jun 12, 2012 — A researcher at Trudeau Institute in Saranac Lake will share in a $3 million grant for new research that will help develop techniques for fighting bacterial infections.
The federal research grant is aimed primarily at helping an Oregon-based company called Aronora, but Dr. Stephen Smiley in Saranac Lake will work as co-investigator on the project.
In a press release, Smiley said that his research would help determine whether the company's techniques would work to combat a range of bacterial infections in humans.
This grant comes at a time when Trudeau Institute faces severe budget pressure, and a decline in funding from the National Institutes of Health.
