Governor lavishes attention on Adks, North Country
Albany, NY, Jan 10, 2013 — Governor Andrew Cuomo wrote much of his state of the state address while vacationing over the holidays in the Adirondacks, and boy did it show.
Governor Cuomo spent much of his speech on Wednesday talking about reviving the upstate economy, and he gave several shout-outs to the tourism industry in the North Country.
The governor called for major reforms to the way the state's tourism industry is marketed to potential visitors.

Our challenge is to reintroduce people to the beauty and the assets of Upstate New York.
"We now have great special events all across upstate New York. This is the balloon festival in Glens Falls — it's magnificent, if you haven't had a chance to be there before."Governor Cuomo also says the state will sponsor a big whitewater rafting competition in the Adirondacks — and he joked that he would take part.
"I will have my own team," Cuomo said. "I will have my Brawny paper towel man shirt, that I'm wearing."
This comes on the heels of a decision by state officials last month to fund a new $2.5 million investment fund designed to boost tourism infrastructure in the Adirondacks.
