Mayor Bloomberg, in exchanges with state lawmakers that at times became heated, defended his city's failure to meet Cuomo's deadline to finish the teacher evaluations, saying negotiating with the teachers union was "impossible". And he told Assembly Education Committee Chair Kathy Nolan that the state education department's plans were fatally flawed, and won't work. He says the 99 percent of other school districts were wrong to agree to the program.
"Everybody else made an agreement but the city, "Assemblywoman Nolan charged.
"Yes, because everybody else is just interested in getting the money," Bloomberg answered. "And committing what I would call fraud."
Mayor Bloomberg asked the legislature to change the governor's budget, or change the teacher evaluation law. The mayor did not, however, criticize Governor Cuomo directly.
