Schiffner started as interim president at the Canton college last September, after longtime President Joe Kennedy stepped down. Her resignation takes effect July 31st.

Schiffner says SUNY Canton and the Canton community are like her adopted family, but she's excited about living closer to her parents.

SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher praised Schiffner's work toward shared services, a major goal at the Central office. In the press release, the Chancellor says Schiffner and SUNY Potsdam President John Schwaller have made great strides, including appointment of a shared chief financial officer.

Zimpher says in light of these efforts, and Schwaller's recent resignation, interim presidents will be appointed for each the Canton and Potsdam colleges in the coming months. Zimpher says she intends to initiate formal presidential searches for each of the schools in Fall 2013.

This is welcomed news to campus and community officials, who have fought to maintain a president at each college.
