New York state to crack down on tax evasion

It's tax day, and New York state says it's cracking down on tax evasion.

In a press release, New York State Tax Commissioner Tom Mattox says he's expanding a partnership with the State Police to aggressively pursue people who don't pay their taxes.

The police have worked with the Tax Department for the past couple of years on enforcement of the cigarette tax. Mattox says they've prevented the evasion of more than $20 million in taxes from illegal cigarette traffickers and sellers.

Now they will join forces to go beyond smokes, and track down all tax crimes, including sales and income tax fraud.
