Specifics of the ban are posted on the county website. It prohibits smoking, chewing, and other uses within 20 feet of county buildings, as well as playgrounds, biking and hiking trails, beaches, and other recreational areas.

The law also forbids people from sitting their cars and smoking.

The county is posting signs to explain the ban. According to the Watertown Daily Times, no one will watch over the grounds and write tickets.

County health officials estimate more than one-fourth of county employees smoke. They hope the law will encourage people to quit. They expect the law protect public health, and eliminate exposure to second-hand smoke.
