May 17, 2013 — E. J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur has gotten approval to expand its lab services. The state forced E.J. Noble to close down last fall, after it found safety problems in the lab.
In a press release, the hospital says it now has state permission to re-start many lab functions.
E.J. Noble leaders call this a major step forward, and say it will mean faster test results for patients.
After last year's closure, Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown took over the lab at E.J. Noble. The Gouverneur hospital is giving notice to end its contract with Samaritan.
A spokesperson tells the Watertown Daily Times that the blood bank will remain closed. The blood bank is necessary for most surgeries and for the maternity ward.
