Listen to this story
The author of a new book of soup recipes from sixty ski resort towns around the country will be in Lake Placid for a book party on Thursday. Jennie Iverson's Ski Town Soups includes a chili recipe from The Cottage Cafe and a tomato/basil soup recipe from Simply Gourmet market and deli in Lake Placid.

Iverson will sign copies of her book at the Cottage Cafe on Thursday at 3 pm. She told Todd Moe that she has a passion for making soups, and hopes the book appeals to skiers and foodies, alike. Iverson wanted to include as many regional favorites as possible.

Long time soup enthusiast Jenny Iverson has just finished her new book, Ski Town Soups, which features soup recipes from ski areas across the country. The cookbook features some local favorites like a creamy tomato basil recipe from Lake Placid’s Simply Gourmet restaurant and a cottage-style chili recipe from The Cottage at Mirror Lake.

While some chefs were at first guarded and hesitant to divulge their secret recipes, Iverson says most eventually gave in when she had finished pitching her high-end gourmet cookbook. It is a showcase for the flavor of ski-town soups, and the culture of ski town people and places. She says it is a “coffee table caliber cookbook” that should be as entertaining and colorful as the soups and recipes it offers.

Iverson has included soup recipes from across the country, including regionally-inspired soups such as Pacific Northwest Steelhead Chowder, California Vegetarian Chili, Colorado Venison Chili and New England Seafood Chowder.

You can pick up a copy of her new book at a book party and signing at The Cottage Café at Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid, Thursday at 3 pm. More information about Ski Town Soups.
