Camp Gabriels auction to start at $90K

State officials have dropped the sale price for a mothballed prison in the Adirondacks to just $90,000.

Camp Gabriels, located north of Saranac Lake, first went on the auction block in 2010 with a minimum bid set just under a million dollars.

The price has been lowered gradually ever since, but New York has yet to receive a single bid on the property, which includes roughly 90 acres of land and more than fifty structures.

Camp Gabriels closed in 2009 as part of a statewide down-sizing of correctional facilities.

Currently, two more north country prisons — in Chateaugay in Franklin County and Mt. McGregor in Saratoga County — are slated to close in 2014.

The latest Camp Gabriels auction is set for October 29.
