Gun scare causes lockdown at Indian River schools

Parents, teachers, and students at a Jefferson County school district had a frightening morning when schools were locked down following a threatening phone call.

According to the Watertown Daily Times, administrators from the Indian River School District in Philadelphia, New York called 9-1-1 Wednesday morning. They said they received a tip that an upset gunman was en route to Evan Mills Primary or another nearby school.

The district put all eight of its buildings on lockdown while investigators and patrols assessed the situation.

Within an hour of the initial emergency response, police determined there was no imminent threat. But the schools still restricted access to their front doors for the rest of the day.
