Incumbent Democrat Steven Putman and Republican Bill Fobare were competing for 1 year on the county legislature.

Putman won, 623 to 408.

But the St. Lawrence County Board of Elections says that because of last year’s redistricting, 291 potential voters didn’t have the district 9 election listed on their ballots and were unable to cast their votes.

Putman says he thinks his victory is secure – for now.

"I’ve won, yes, but that has the potential to change, even if it seems unlikely," Putman says with a laugh.

The Board of Elections says they’ll need to calculate voter turn-out in order to see whether those 291 votes could change the results.

They say they’ll have more accurate numbers coming today.
