NY hosting public meeting on Whiteface Mt. repairs

WILMINGTON, N.Y. (AP) State transportation officials are holding a public information meeting this week regarding the Cuomo administration's plans for a $12 million road project on Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced last month that state will repair the Veterans' Memorial Highway on the mountain, home to a ski resort and a popular scenic tourist spot near Lake Placid.

Construction is expected to start in the spring and take one or two construction seasons to complete.

The Department of Transportation has scheduled a public information meeting Wednesday night to discuss the plan. The meeting will be at the Whiteface Mountain Base Lodge, located on Route 86 in Wilmington.

The eight-mile-long highway was dedicated to the veterans of World War I by Gov. Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1929.
