Vermont woman, 86, found by troopers without heat

GEORGIA, Vt. (AP) Vermont State Police troopers say they found an 86-year-old woman alone in her home in the town of Georgia when the outside temperature was in the low teens.

Police went to the address Monday after dispatchers received a 911 hang-up call.
The woman was dressed in heavy winter clothes and was trying to find blankets to keep herself and a small dog warm.

The troopers found wood pellets to start a fire and they called the Joyal Fuel Company of Fairfax, which put 100 gallons of oil in the woman's tank.

Police did not release the woman's name. She was not hurt, but police are reminding Vermonters to check on neighbors, friends and relatives.

Police contacted other state agencies to ensure the woman's needs are met.
