NY man charged after bicyclist killed by car

CANTON, N.Y. (AP) A 28-year-old northern New York man faces multiple felony charges after state police say he left the scene after hitting a bicyclist with his car, causing fatal injuries.

Troopers say Daniel Lester of Rensselaer Falls in St. Lawrence County was driving his Toyota Corolla north on County Route 27 in Canton shortly before 11 p.m. Monday when the accident happened.

Police say Lester's vehicle struck 69-year-old Richard Morrow of Canton, who was riding his bike north.

Lester was arrested later and charged with vehicular manslaughter, unlicensed driving, leaving the scene of a fatal accident and driving while impaired by drugs.

Lester was arraigned and sent to St. Lawrence County Jail on $7,500 bail.
