Upstate NY braces for gusty wind, bitter cold

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) After an interval of mild, rainy weather, upstate New York is about to be socked again with gusty winds, lake-effect snow and wind chills plunging well below zero.

The National Weather Service has posted high wind warnings Monday morning for western New York, where gusts of up to 60 mph could bring down some trees and power lines.

Lake-effect snow warnings are posted for Monday afternoon through Wednesday south and east of Lake Ontario, with total accumulations up more than 3 feet in the most persistent snowfall areas.

Then an arctic air mass will spread over the state, with wind-chill watches and warnings posted for Monday night at Tuesday. The weather service says wind chill values may be as low as 30 below zero at times in some parts of the state.
