Big bucks for ORDA in Cuomo budget

Listen to this story
The Cuomo administration wants to spend another $9.4 million upgrading infrastructure at the Olympic Regional Development Authority, which operates sports venues in Johnsburg, Lake Placid and Wilmington, as well as in the Catskills.

This money comes on top of more than $12 million already committed to refurbish the Whiteface Memorial Highway in Wilmington.

State Senator Betty Little praised the funding, and says she hopes a big chunk of the new money will go to upgrade an aging ski lift at Gore Mountain.

Lake Placid Mayor Craig Randall issued a statement to North Country Public Radio last night praising the funding, saying that ORDA's venues "provide significant economic benefit and jobs to our community."

This funding also comes at a time when ORDA is working to refurbish the Belleayre ski area in the Catskills.
