Listen to this story
Democratic party leaders in the North Country say they'll wrap up interviews with potential candidates for the region's House seat the first week in February.

In a press release issued this morning, Washington County Chairman Sheila Comar said the group is expected to complete its selection process by mid-February.

She urged anyone interested in seeking the office on the Democratic line to contact county leaders by February 4.

According to Comar, the selection process is similar to the one used in 2009, when Democrats first won the House seat.

The search for a new Democrat to run for the 21st district seat began last month, when Congressman Bill Owens from Plattsburgh announced that he won't run again.

Republicans already have at least three candidates seeking the seat.
