Feb 14, 2003 — Last week, the government put the U.S. on high alert for terrorist attacks. According to the Homeland Security Department, recent intelligence reports suggest that the al Qaeda terrorist network may attempt attacks in the U.S. or abroad. The threat of biological or chemical warfare, such as small pox or nuclear weapons has prompted a string of news stories about how to prepare for such a disaster. Some reports suggest creating a "safe-room," sealed tightly with duct tape and plastic to provide protection from radiation. We asked some folks in the North Country if they're making any preparations at home.
