Nine Mile Point 2 nuclear plant back online after power outage

SCRIBA, N.Y. (AP) Constellation Energy says its Nine Mile Point 2 nuclear power plant on Lake Ontario in central New York is back in service after being shut down last week by a problem with a power supply.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said the Nine Mile Point 2 plant in Scriba was manually shut down early Tuesday after the loss of off-site power to control and alarm electrical circuits.

The officials say the problem affected the flow of cooling to both of the plant's reactor recirculation pumps. In response, the plant's operators manually scrammed the reactor, which entails inserting all of the control rods to halt the fissioning process.

Constellation Energy says the plant returned to service Sunday.
