Rivers to return as mayor of Rouses Point

The Plattsburgh Press-Republican is reporting this morning that George Rivers will once again serve as mayor of Rouses Point in Clinton County.

Rivers retired in 2012, but he jumped back into politics this year and won a close race against incumbent Francis Baker. According to the newspaper, Rivers won yesterday by just seven votes.

The vote comes as Rouses Point faces the loss of more pharmaceutical jobs this year as Pfizer continues to phase out operations.

Rivers told the Press-Republican that downtown revitalization will be one of his priorities.
