Second buried body found on Stockholm property

STOCKHOLM, N.Y. (AP) State police say they've uncovered a second set of human remains buried on the property of a missing northern New York couple.

Investigators say they found the second set of remains Monday evening in the St. Lawrence County town of Stockholm, about 10 miles south of the Canadian border.

Both sets of remains were found during the search for a couple in their 80s. Relatives say they lost contact with the couple more than a year ago.

Authorities say the investigation began as a welfare fraud investigation. Investigators found the first set of buried remains Friday.

An acquaintance of the couple was undergoing a mental health evaluation, but no one has been charged.

Troopers say both sets of remains have been taken to Albany Medical Center, where an autopsy will be conducted Tuesday.
