Vermont's largest hospital seeks 128 new rooms

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) Vermont's largest hospital wants to construct a new building that would contain 128 private patient rooms.

The Burlington Development Review Board looked at plans for the 160,000-square foot building that would be located above the entrance to Fletcher Allen Health Care's emergency department and a parking lot.

The new building would replace two floors in a separate building that dates to 1961.

In its application to the city, the hospital says the new building is the first of several planned bed-replacement facilities, which may occur over the coming decades.

Hospital facilities director David Keelty tells the Burlington Free Press private rooms improve patient privacy and confidentiality, reduce possible noise complaints, help reduce the risk of infection, and allow space for equipment and amenities for patients' family members.
