Saratoga and North Creek Railway sold

One of the Adirondack Park's two tourism railroads has been sold, according to a report in the Adirondack Journal newspaper. Iowa Pacific Rail, which operates the Saratoga and North Creek Railway, is selling an 80 percent interest to a company called Chai Trust Company and EGI Fund Investors.

According the newspaper, Warren County officials who have partnered on the railroad project and own the tracks say they've had little communication about the sale. They are trying to find more information about what it will mean.

Lisa Salamon, executive director of the Gore Mountain Region Chamber of Commerce, told the Adirondack Journal that her office had received no notification of the sale. "We are pretty disappointed in that," she said.

The railway currently operates passenger service between Saratoga Springs and North Creek and has been seen as a major attraction to revitalize the community's summer tourism.
