Police: Man, boy killed by train were on trestle

KINGSBURY, N.Y. (AP) Authorities say the man and 6-year-old boy fatally struck by a New York City-bound Amtrak train were fishing on a narrow upstate trestle when they were killed.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office says 30-year-old Paul Wallach of Kingsbury had taken Jordan Catellier fishing Sunday evening on a rail trestle over a creek in their hometown, located 50 miles north of Albany.

Officials say both were hit by the southbound train after they were unable to get off the trestle in time. Authorities say the train didn't stop.

Someone spotted one of the bodies along the tracks and called 911.

The sheriff says video footage from the train has confirmed that both victims were on the trestle when they were hit.

Police are working with Amtrak to determine the train crew's actions before and after the accident.
