They say Melrose, Florida resident Almond Upton deliberately swerved his truck into Trooper Christopher Skinner on Interstate 81 near Binghamton around noon Thursday.

Upton was taken into custody after a police dog tracked him into nearby woods, where he was found naked. Police say he didn't appear to be drunk or on drugs.

Upton has been arraigned on a first-degree murder charge and jailed without bail. It's unclear if he has a lawyer. He can't be reached for comment in jail.

Police say he told them he was driving to Connecticut to visit his mother.
