Rafting on hold after NY bus crash kills guide, age 15

A popular Adirondack river rafting company has suspended operations indefinitely after a 15-year-old river guide died when a company bus overturned.

The Glens Falls Post-Star reports authorities identified the victim of Saturday's crash as Hunter Scofield, an employee of Tubby Tubes Rafting Company.

Scofield was one of 34 people aboard the modified school bus on the way to a Hudson River "lazy river" excursion Saturday.

The bus owned by the Tubby Tubes Rafting company was carrying 31 customers and 3 employees.

According to police, the bus overturned, apparently because of mechanical problems.

State police say Scofield was thrown from the bus and died at the scene in Lake Luzerne.

The accident took place just after midday.

Tubby Tubes issued a statement expressing condolences to Scofield's family.

The principal of Hadley-Luzerne high school described him as a “kind, thoughtful and intelligent young man.”

Beecher Baker told the Post Star, “We are at a loss for words in regards to Hunter’s passing,”
