Scattered outages are being reported Thursday morning from the Finger Lakes region to the Albany area. About half of the outages are in central New York, where the National Weather Service says a tornado touched down in Madison County Tuesday evening. The twister killed four people in the town of Smithfield, demolished four homes and damaged several others.

National Grid reports the most outages with more than 10,000. The utility says some of its customers won't be their electricity service restored until Friday.

Early Wednesday morning, about 72,000 customers were without power in upstate New York.
