Plattsburgh: Pakistani Border Crisis Simmers As Deadline Passes
Mar 21, 2003 — Today is the deadline for thousands of Pakistanis and Saudis living in the U-S, who are required to register with the Federal government. Officials with the Department of Homeland Security say the program has been a success. But special registration sent shockwaves through New York's Muslim immigrant community. The law triggered a refugee crisis on the border north of Plattsburgh, as hundreds of families fled to Canada. As Brian Mann reports, volunteer groups say their shelters are still full - and their resources are tapped out.
