New Akwesasne Leadership Critical of Agreement With State

Akwesasne Mohawks voted Saturday to oust the status quo and make changes in the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Council that could also affect the Canadian-recognized council and the traditional Mohawk Nation council. Several of the chiefs-elect come from a traditionalist perspective. As David Sommerstein reports, the results could have a profound effect on the deal with Governor Pataki over land claims, casinos, and taxation.
