New Akwesasne Leadership Critical of Agreement With State
Jun 09, 2003 — Akwesasne Mohawks voted Saturday to oust the status quo and make changes in the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Council that could also affect the Canadian-recognized council and the traditional Mohawk Nation council. Several of the chiefs-elect come from a traditionalist perspective. As David Sommerstein reports, the results could have a profound effect on the deal with Governor Pataki over land claims, casinos, and taxation.
