Jul 30, 2003 — Work is underway on a menagerie of wooden figures that will be displayed in the Adirondack Carousel in Saranac Lake. Organizers say the carousel building, still in the planning stages, will incorporate the fun of a traditional merry-go-round with the look of an Adirondack camp. It will include 20 indigenous animals. Carvers from across New York and the country are donating their time and talents to create the carousel animals. But you won't find any horses in this collection, instead there's a beaver, raccoon, eagle, loon, trout and even a blackfly. Todd Moe caught up with one of the carvers, who's working on the raccoon in a toy store window in downtown Saranac Lake this summer.
