Demystifying Modern Art: Why a Painting is Like a Pizza

Listen to this story
The Gibson Gallery at SUNY Potsdam kicks off a new lecture series on diverse topics in art tonight at 7 pm. Art historian Dr. Nancy Heller, author of the book, Why a Painting is Like a Pizza--a Guide to Understanding and Enjoying Modern Art, will give a presentation on demystifying modern and contemporary art. Her lecture is free and open to the public, and ideal for those who are often curious yet suspicious art world neophytes venturing into the unknown. Heller told Todd Moe that a painting and a pizza both depend on visual balance for much of their overall appeal.
