Oct 03, 2003 — With a dusting of snow and frost in some parts of the region this week, it's time to say good-bye to bright perennials and favorite herbs. But many North Country gardeners enjoyed an extended growing season again this year thanks to mild temperatures last month. For a group of novice gardeners in Potsdam, this summer was an opportunity to seriously dig into tilling, hoeing, weeding and fence building. And despite a late start and lack of supplies, their volunteer effort paid off recently with a whopping harvest for the needy. Todd Moe reports.
