Feb 24, 2004 — After a slow start due to a warm early winter, ice fishing across the North Country is in full swing. Lakes and rivers across the region are dotted with ice shanties - some primitive shacks, others cozy dens. The sport is a great way for anglers and their friends to get outdoors during the frigid months. The last month of the season offers the additional challenge of thick ice and crafty fish. David Sommerstein hiked out to the windswept bays of the St. Lawrence River last year and sent back this audio postcard.
Ice fishing derbies are set for this weekend in Lake George and Lake Luzerne, and next weekend in Schroon Lake.
