Mar 02, 2004 — A pyramid scheme called "Freeway International" has bilked a dozen people in Lewis County and Watertown out of half a million dollars, according to the state attorney general's office. Assistant Attorney General John Sullivan says an investigation into Liberty Christian Church in Watertown unearthed the illegal scam. Another pyramid scheme called Women Empowering Women ripped through the North Country in 2001. Sullivan says the details of Freeway International differ but the result is the same.
