There's more than a year left before a controversial federal milk program expires. But Northeast lawmakers are already pressing their Midwestern counterparts to support a new version. Representatives like Congressman John McHugh and US Senator Charles Schumer hope to replace the current Milk Income Loss Contract or MILC program, which expires next year, with the National Dairy Equity Act. In an interview yesterday, Schumer said the legislation probably won’t pass in the next few months, but there is gaining support for it across the nation.
