Dec 15, 2004 — Artists in Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties are hoping to save a historic movie palace in Plattsburgh. They want to restore the Strand Theatre as a regional performing arts and film center. The Strand was built in 1924 in the opulent style of the grand movie palaces of the era with silk wall hangings, exotic woods and marble staircases. In August, the North Country Cultural Center for the Arts purchased the Strand Theatre with the intent of creating a performance arts and film center. Todd Moe spoke with NCCCA President Sylvia Stack.
