Snowmobile Racer Dies In Malone
Jan 10, 2005 — Malone village police say a snowmobile racer died on Saturday from "multiple internal injuries, consistent with a motor vehicle accident". 39-year-old Douglas Bellinger, from Boonville, was competing in the second annual "Snocross" at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Malone. Malone police say Bellinger crashed after launching into the air over a jump. He apparently hit the ground hard, causing his chest to slam into the snowmobile's handlebars. Bellinger was then thrown from the sled. He was taken to Alice Hyde Medical Center and pronounced dead at 11:30 Saturday morning. According to police and fire department sources, several other racers were transported to the hospital for minor injuries.
