Mar 17, 2005 — The vocation of ship pilot usually comes after extensive ship-handling experience at sea. St. Lawrence River ship pilot Don Metzger is one of a handful of specialists based in Cape Vincent, whose job it is to guide freighters through the twists and turns of the Seaway between Cape Vincent and Massena. He joined NCPR staff in the the studio to talk about life on the river, and to take listener calls.
