May 05, 2005 — Russell Banks is currently the state author of New York. He is the author of many novels including the Pulitzer Prize finalist in 1985, Continental Drift and a second Pulitzer Prize finalist, Cloudsplitter. Two of Banks' books, The Sweet Hereafter and Affliction have been adapted for film. There are also five short story collections to his credit. Banks has won many awards including a Guggenheim Fellowship, the John Dos Passos Award, and election to the American Academy of Fine Arts and Sciences. The weekend, Russell Banks will receive an honorary degree from Clarkson University. A couple of weeks ago he spoke with Chris Robinson, co-host of "Readers and Writers On-the-Air" and Professor in the School of Arts and Sciences at Clarkson.
