Sep 02, 2005 — The skyrocketing gas prices are uncharted territory. There are more questions than answers. For example, older mechanical gas pumps aren't calibrated to handle the three dollar-plus prices. On Wednesday, St. Lawrence County's Department of Weights and Measures authorized some stations to sell gas by the half-gallon until they can update the control mechanisms on their pumps. Law enforcement agencies are warning the gas prices could cause more crime. Gas drive-offs are up. And the St. Lawrence County sheriff is warning people to lock their gas tanks, especially bulk tanks on farms. David Sommerstein reports.
