Schoolkids Pack Supplies for the Gulf Coast

Listen to this story
Teachers and students at an elementary school in Saranac Lake are doing their part to help a school on the Gulf Coast devastated by Hurricane Katrina. They spent Tuesday afternoon filling new backpacks full of school supplies and packing them in boxes to be trucked to Long Beach, Mississippi. The elementary school and many other homes and buildings there were destroyed. As Chris Knight reports, the backpacks will give the Mississippi students a boost for the new school year, and give local kids a personal connection to the hurricane's effects.
